Alevin, 2019
Artspace 1616, Sacramento CA
An alevin is a juvenile steelhead trout or salmon. For the 2019 exhibition Fish Head, displayed at Artspace 1616, 10 Alevin were shown alongside four large kinetic sound sculptures. All of the trout imagery originates from the project Burial Ground, where a trout was buried underground with a camera which documented its mummification process. The mummified trout was then 3D scanned and plastic prints of various sizes were used throughout the works in Fish Head. For the 2D elements of these works, photos of the mummification process were made into stamps which started as the basis for the watercolor elements and Xerox transfers were used before being completed with graphite.
